Beach Channel Time Trial Race 2021

With Covid-19 among us and races being canceled faster than they could be announced, I decided to try something new. I have never raced Time Trials before and was pleasantly surprised at how much fun they were.  Alex from Verrazano Team Racing put on the series. The races were very well organized and run.  I raced all 5 on my Spiegel Alpina with Lead Wheels in the Non-TT bike class. (Eddie Merckx styles) as commonly referred to.

Race 1

Central Park NYC, It was down Pouring!  This created a bit of a challenge with the horse manure and all the paint on the pavement. I took it easy and came in 6th in my category.  273 watt average with an average speed of 22.2mph.2

Race 2

Prospect Park Brooklyn, I though the conditions were tough for the first race. It was 27 degrees with a wind chill of 24.  I was a bit more confident with the dry pavement my avg watts were 303 with a 22.7 mph avg.  I earned a 3rd place for my category.

Race 3,4 and 5

Beach Channel Drive Belle Harbor Queens,  What a difference the weather conditions make specifically  the wind!!

Race 3: 45 degrees with a 10.2 mph NNW. I had a bit of a push on the long leg of the race.  My avg watts were 272 with a 23.3 mph average.  I earned a 2nd place finish.

Race 4: 49 degrees with 8.7 mph wind from the wsw.  No help at all from this direction.  I increased my avg watts to 301 to only see a 3tenth increase in avg speed to 23.6.  I was very happy to earn a 1st place finish in my category.

Race 5: 44 degrees with a 22.4 mph wind speed from the NW.  This was more of a cross wind that anything.  It was a fight to keep the bike going straight and not get pushed into traffic.  Surprisingly my avg watts were 302 almost exactly the same as the week before.  The same avg speed of 23.6 to earn another 1st place finish in my category.
